LaVerkin City Culinary Water Improvements, 2010

On January 19, 2010 the LaVerkin City Council approved the receipt of a Parity Water Bond through the State...Hawker

of Utah Department of Environmental Quality Division of Drinking Water for the amount of $720,000. Bids were opened earlier that day. Hawker Enterprises was awarded the contract as the lowest bidder at the City Council meeting that night. Sam Jerman, Hawker Enterprises representative accepted the award. The bond will be used to replace the old culinary line that currently runs down State Street. This line was acquired by LaVerkin City in the late 1970s when it was abandoned by Hurricane City. The old cast iron pipe has been the source of water leakage and loss. Repairs are costly and inconvenient in the State Highway. The project will replace 6,700 feet of 12" line from 800 North to 300 South, will take 75 days for completion, and will bring the line up to current code requirements.

This is a good time for the city to replace this line. Bids were competitive, and the loan term is 2.9% for 20 years. The first payment due March 2010, will be for interest only, with an annual payment of $48,000 beginning March 2011. The replacement should reduce water loss/slippage the city has experienced, and will increase flow to the residents.
