Local Highlights

In the City Council meeting September 16, the Mayor & Council decided on a name for our newest city park which will be called "Power Plant Park". There were many great possible names that were submitted for consideration, but they decided on Power Plant Park. The Council left open the possibility of some time in the future when money is available putting up a kiosk of some kind and having a little history of the park along with those land owners and other people who played a part in Confluence Park.

Three La Verkin City seniors from Hurricane High each win $500 scholarships toward continuing education. The La Verkin city council, mayor and city staff are very pleased to award these to Jaycee Oliphant, Ashley Reeve (pictured is Courtney Reeve accepting for her sister) and Jansen Ence. This is the first year for La Verkin's Scholarship Progam and the city hopes to continue it yearly.

The La Verkin City Royalty was introduced to the La Verkin City Council in our March 4 City Council Meeting, Miss La Verkin for 2020 is McKendry Jensen, Adri Gubler 1st Attendant and Aylie Stewart 2nd attendant. The program was February 8, 2020 .

La Verkin City Royalty visited the City Council meeting March 6, 2019. It is tradition that they write and sing a short song about La Verkin. This year's did not disappoint.

Protected from light rain by hastily assembled canopies, about six dozen people gathered at the entrance to Riverwood Park on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, to dedicate La Verkin's newest  park to the memories of  Jada Marie Harris and Steven W. Cox. Along with the Harris and Cox families the crowd included  La Verkin's Mayor and Council, most of the city employees, and representatives of other emergency response teams.
