Irrigation Water Update 3-31-20

Due to a large break in the main transmission line that feeds La Verkin and Hurricane irrigation water, the Washington County Water Conservancy District (WCWCD),  took the water out of the line Sunday afternoon, March 29. WCWCD hopes to access the break by late Tuesday afternoon, March 31, and will then estimate a timeline for repair, and getting the water back into the line. They do not have a date yet as to when irrigation water will be flowing for residents and businesses.

3-19-20 Important - Changes to City & Police Dept Office Hours

ATTENTION CITIZENS! Based on the recommendation and guidance from the CDC, the Utah Governor’s Office and the Southwest Utah Public Health Department the La Verkin City Office at 435 North Main Street and the La Verkin City Police Department Office at 111 South Main will be closed to walk in traffic to help slow the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus). This will take effect March 19th at 12:00 PM and continue for an indefinite period. Key staff along with the Mayor will be meeting regularly to determine the best course of action to ensure the safety of La Verkin City Citizens as well as members of the city staff.

The Zion Regional Collaborative - a group of local government, land managers, interested stakeholders, and residents working together to address regional issues in the Zion region - is working on an initial planning study to come up with feasible trail routes from the Hurricane / La Verkin area to Springdale - a distance of 22 miles. Zion Regional Collaborative (ZRC) is working with local organizations and partners to plan a walking and biking trail extending from Zion National Park to Hurricane City - a distance of approximately 22 miles. When complete, the trail will create connections for recreation and transportation throughout the communities of Springdale, Rockville, Virgin, La Verkin, and Hurricane. The trail will also become an amenity for the many who live, work and play throughout the region.
